Strechau Castle, Renaissance castle and automobile museum in Lassing, Austria.
Strechau is a Renaissance castle located in the municipality of Lassing at an elevation of about 641 meters (2,100 feet). The fortress contains decorated rooms and exhibition spaces, with a notable car collection housed in its baroque storage buildings.
The site was first recorded in 1074 as a military fortification protecting the valley below. During the 16th century, the Hoffmann family transformed it into a residential castle with Renaissance design elements.
The painted ceiling room from the 16th century displays ornamental patterns typical of that era, while the exhibitions reflect the religious changes that shaped the region. These spaces show how the castle's inhabitants expressed their beliefs through decoration and collected objects.
Access is by guided tour only, available from May through October. Tours run hourly throughout the day, allowing flexible scheduling for visitors planning their visit.
The baroque storage buildings house one of Europe's largest collections of historical Steyr automobiles. These vehicles were manufactured locally, making the collection a direct link to the area's industrial past.
