Frauenburg, Medieval castle ruins in Unzmarkt-Frauenburg, Austria
The stone ruins of Frauenburg Castle stand on a ridge in the Mur Valley, featuring remnants of defensive walls and tower structures.
Built in 1248 by Ulrich von Liechtenstein, the castle served as a strategic fortification point controlling access through the Mur Valley.
The nearby parish church contains the oldest German-language gravestone, belonging to minnesinger Ulrich von Liechtenstein from 1275.
Visitors can reach the castle ruins through a marked hiking trail starting from the Unzmarkt-Frauenburg town center.
The 500-kilogram gravestone in the parish church was originally a Roman inscription plaque, later reused and installed upside down as a threshold.
