Herzogshof, Medieval ducal residence in Herrengasse, Graz, Austria
The Herzogshof extends between Herrengasse and Prokopigasse streets, featuring a long interior courtyard that preserves its medieval architectural structure from the 14th century.
The building first appeared in records in 1360 as the residence of Styrian dukes, where they conducted official business and granted feudal rights until 1450.
The entire facade spans 220 square meters and displays frescoes painted by Johann Mayer in 1742, depicting figures from Greek and Roman mythology.
The renovated building now contains modern retail spaces, restaurants, offices, and residential areas across five floors while maintaining its protected historical structure.
In 1382, representatives from Trieste arrived at Herzogshof to request Habsburg protection against Venetian expansion, leading to centuries of Austrian control.
