Hilmwarte, Television and observation tower in Mariatrost, Graz, Austria.
Hilmwarte is an observation tower located in the Mariatrost district featuring six tapered floors and a rectangular foundation. The structure stands 40 meters tall with an observation platform positioned at approximately 30 meters above ground.
The tower was financed by local industrialists in 1887 and replaced a wooden structure that previously occupied the same site. It later became a weather radar research station and served as a fire watch post during World War II.
The tower opening celebration in 1888 included performances by three military bands playing the specially composed Hilmteichwarte March by Josef Steyskal.
The tower is located near Roseggerweg 31 and functions as a weather radar research facility. As a protected architectural monument, access to the structure is limited for visitors.
The tower originally featured an Aeolian harp installed on its roof, which remained until the end of World War II. This unusual instrument was part of the tower's original design and was lost during the war period.
