The four-towered castle stands on a hill in the Wildbach valley, featuring ochre-colored stucco decorations above the windows and cornerstones with plaster ashlar.

The original structure from the 13th century was rebuilt between 1534 and 1540 by Sigmund von Wildenstein after Turkish forces destroyed the previous building.

The castle contains a chapel dedicated to Saint Anna, which received a mass license in 1681, with an altar dating from approximately 1760.

The castle belongs to multiple private owners who are descendants of the Massegg family and work together to maintain the historical property.

Composer Franz Schubert stayed at Schloss Wildbach from September 10-12, 1827, commemorated by an inscription plate above the entrance gate.
