Schloss Drosendorf

Schloss Drosendorf is a Renaissance castle with four three-story wings arranged around a central rectangular courtyard, and a baroque chapel incorporated into the stone building. The layout creates a balanced composition where different architectural styles blend together within a unified structure.

The site was first documented in 1180, but the current castle structure dates to 1694 following extensive rebuilding after lightning struck and destroyed the original building. This reconstruction shaped the form and layout visitors see today.

The castle hosts regular events throughout the year that bring together film screenings, music performances, and dining experiences in its historic rooms and grounds. These gatherings have become part of how locals and visitors experience the place today.

The castle offers accommodations in multiple room types and can host business meetings and events for groups up to 58 people. Visitors should plan time to explore both the interior spaces and the surrounding grounds at a leisurely pace.

The castle sits at the heart of Drosendorf, Austria's only town that still preserves its complete medieval fortification walls along the Thaya River. These walls form a rare protective ring around the town that remains intact today.
