Schloss Drosendorf is a high-baroque castle in the southeast corner of the historic town, built into the medieval town walls. It kept its castle-like character until a complete rebuild after a fire in 1694; Matthäus Merian's 1645 town view shows the earlier form. The four three-story wings enclose a square inner courtyard, and a baroque chapel from 1681 stands within the complex.

Drosendorf's lordship reaches back to the High Middle Ages, when an "Albero de Drozendorf" appears as a witness in a Geras monastery charter. The town itself was laid out around 1200 on a broad meander spur of the Thaya, and after 1279 it passed to the Habsburgs, who pledged it to lords such as Ulrich von Kapellen and later the Wallsee family. The castle kept its fortified character until a fire in 1694 prompted a comprehensive rebuild in the High Baroque style; Matthäus Merian's 1645 town view shows the earlier form.

The castle's name lives on in the "landuni" project run here since 2022, a cooperation between TU Wien and the province of Lower Austria for practice-oriented research in rural areas. In summer 2021 the building served for several weeks as a set for the historical film Keinen Schritt zurück!.

The castle stands in the southeast corner of the historic town, built into the medieval town walls, so it is reached on foot through the old centre. Since 2022 it has run as Schlosshotel Drosendorf, a breakfast guesthouse for private guests, while the landuni research cooperation between TU Wien and Lower Austria also uses the building. Parts of the house remain in use as a guesthouse, so visitors should expect shared premises rather than a museum.
