Freigut Thallern, Historic winery in Guntramsdorf, Austria
The Freigut Thallern winery stretches across rolling hills, featuring traditional architecture and modern wine production facilities amid established vineyards.
Founded in 1141 when granted to the Cistercian Order, this second-oldest vineyard in Austria has maintained continuous wine production for over 880 years.
The wine shop exhibits products from 60 regional wineries, presenting local varieties such as Rotgipfler and Zierfandler in a renovated historic cellar.
Visitors can reserve 20-minute guided tours starting at the Johannes Chapel, continuing through the barrique cellar and concluding in the archive of rarities.
The Polz family leases the entire property from Heiligenkreuz monastery, combining ancient winemaking traditions with contemporary production methods.
