Jörg-Haider-Brücke, Road bridge in Ruden, Austria
The Jörg-Haider-Brücke is a road bridge over the Drava River, connecting Ruden and Bleiburg while accommodating both vehicle traffic and cycling paths. The structure allows travel between these communities and provides access to surrounding regions through modern bridge design.
The bridge first opened to traffic in 2005 under a different name and was renamed in 2009. The renaming marked a change in how the crossing was officially recognized by the region.
The bridge features a two-and-a-half-meter bronze statue of Saint John of Nepomuk, positioned at its center as the bridge's patron saint.
The crossing allows direct passage for both cars and bicycles between the two communities. Visitors should be prepared for varying conditions depending on the season and weather.
The construction required 18,500 cubic meters of concrete and 2,000 tons of steel, completing six months ahead of schedule without any accidents.
