Napoleonwald

Napoleonwald is a natural monument in Auhof, Vienna's 13th district, bounded by city streets and home to diverse tree species. Walking paths cross through the wooded area, allowing visitors to observe local plants and animals.

The forest received its name during the Napoleonic Wars when trees were cut for firewood needed at Schloss Schönbrunn. This link to that historical period remains part of the location's identity today.

The forest was once home to large populations of stag beetles and longhorn beetles, so numerous that they spread into neighboring homes. Today these insects are far less common to encounter.
