Napoleonwald

Napoleonwald, Natural monument in Auhof, Vienna, Austria

Napoleonwald is a natural monument in Auhof, Vienna's 13th district, bounded by city streets and home to diverse tree species. Walking paths cross through the wooded area, allowing visitors to observe local plants and animals.

The forest received its name during the Napoleonic Wars when trees were cut for firewood needed at Schloss Schönbrunn. This link to that historical period remains part of the location's identity today.

The forest carries its name from the Napoleonic era and shapes the character of Vienna's 13th district. Today, local residents use it as a green retreat among densely built neighborhoods.

The area is easily reached by public transportation and provides paths for walking in a nature space close to the city. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes, as trail conditions can vary depending on weather.

The forest was once home to large populations of stag beetles and longhorn beetles, so numerous that they spread into neighboring homes. Today these insects are far less common to encounter.
