Spittl - Fachhochschule, Spittal an der Drau

Spittl is a school building with four wings surrounding a two-story arcade courtyard featuring Tuscan columns. The southern facade displays classical architectural elements including double half-columns and decorated window parapets.

Gabriel von Salamanca commissioned the building in 1530 as a replacement for a hospice located near the parish church. The structure has undergone various modifications over the centuries before becoming an educational facility.

The building displays decorative plasterwork from 1843 featuring figures that represent rivers in allegorical style. These artistic details shape the appearance of the central facade and reflect the local tradition of skilled craftsmanship.

A comprehensive renovation overseen by architect Herbert Missoni took place in 1998, transforming the historical structure into a contemporary educational facility. The project skillfully merged the original building fabric with modern teaching requirements.
