Pihapper, Mountain summit in Hohe Tauern National Park, Austria

Pihapper is a summit in the Venediger Group of the Hohe Tauern range located in Salzburg. The peak rises above steep slopes with snowfields and rocky outcrops that dominate the surrounding terrain.

The mountain sits within the Hohe Tauern National Park, created to protect Austria's alpine landscape. The region has a long tradition of mountaineering and alpine exploration.

The name Pihapper is used for the whole massif, but the slender peak itself stands on the border between Mittersill and Hollersbach. Hikers often start from the Mong snack station above Mittersill or from Gasthof Berghof above the Hollersbach valley, where the Pölsenalm at 1704 m is a traditional rest stop.

The climb takes roughly five hours and requires mountaineering experience along with good physical fitness. Plan for changing conditions with snow and rocky terrain throughout the ascent.

The Pihapper is a slender peak on the border between the municipalities of Mittersill and Hollersbach. From the Platte at 1,788 m, the route follows a long ridge on the north side up to the Pflugsberg at 2,414 m before the summit. The section above the Pflugsberg is partly secured with fixed ropes.
