Tabakfabrik, Industrial heritage complex in Linz, Austria
Tabakfabrik is a large industrial complex in Linz featuring steel-frame buildings from the 1930s designed in a clean, functional style. The site contains multiple connected buildings now filled with exhibition spaces, restaurants, shops, and event areas.
The site began as a textile mill in 1668, shifted to tobacco production in 1850, and operated until 2009. After closing, it was completely renovated and converted into a cultural and office space.
The complex now hosts artists, designers, and tech companies working within the old production halls. This mix of creative professionals has made it a gathering place where people develop new ideas and collaborate across industries.
The site is easy to reach on foot and well laid out for visitors with different interests. There is plenty of space to walk around and the different areas are clear and easy to navigate.
A new tall office building with 28 stories is being built on the site in the coming years. It will become one of the tallest office buildings outside Vienna.
