Schloss Biberstein

Schloss Biberstein is a three-story stone building arranged around a square courtyard with arcades dating to the 16th century. The structure rests on irregular foundations and features a moveable roof system above this layout.

Marchwart der Pybriacher built this castle in the late 14th century after receiving noble rank from Duke Wilhelm in 1396. The structure was later expanded and acquired major artistic decorations during the 18th century.

The upper level displays a striking stucco ceiling from around 1735 showing Diana, Actaeon, and the Triumph of Dionysus in mythological scenes. These ornaments reflect the artistic taste and classical education of the castle's residents during that era.

The castle sits at the southern entrance to Himmelberg and can be reached directly from the Turrach federal road. Designated parking areas are available near the building.

The stairwell features a wrought iron gate crafted around 1920 from reclaimed Baroque grave crosses dating to the 18th century. This ironwork unexpectedly merges religious objects with new architectural purpose.
