Schloss Ebenau, Renaissance château in Weizelsdorf, Austria

Schloss Ebenau is a Renaissance castle in Feistritz im Rosental with a two-story structure, an additional mezzanine level, and a rectangular floor plan topped by a hip roof. It sits at the southern edge of the settlement, giving it a distinct position in the landscape.

The estate originated as part of the Hollenburg domain before transferring to Viktring Abbey around 1200, later transforming into a Renaissance castle under the Dietrichstein family in the 16th century. This progression shows how the property shifted from religious to aristocratic ownership over time.

The rooms display wooden beam ceilings from the 16th century and wall paintings from later centuries that reflect the former grandeur of the noble families who lived here. These preserved details show how wealthy residents once lived in this region.

The castle now functions as a private cultural venue hosting art exhibitions and contemporary events, bringing modern uses to the historic space. Visitors should inquire in advance about current opening times and scheduled exhibitions, as the availability varies.

Two small corner towers on the western side received quarter-circle bay window extensions around 1900 and a Secessionist-style facade. This modernization reveals how the castle adapted to new aesthetic trends while keeping its historical core intact.
