Palais Kottulinsky, Neo-baroque palace in Geidorf district, Graz, Austria.
Palais Kottulinsky is a neo-baroque building at the intersection of Elisabethstrasse and Beethovenstrasse in the Geidorf district. The two-story structure displays three ornate facade sides with a central projection and an upper floor articulated by pilasters.
The palace was constructed in 1853 by architect Georg Hauberisser the Elder. Major alterations took place in 1892 under the direction of August Gunolt and Georg Hönel.
The building displays the coat of arms of the Kottulinsky family from Upper Silesia above its balcony, marking a connection to Austrian nobility through heraldic symbols. These details give the facade a sense of lineage and aristocratic heritage.
The University of Graz occupies the ground and first floors for its academic functions. The basement level contains a nightclub, making the building accessible to visitors with different interests.
The building features an unusual layout with its main entrance accessed from the courtyard side rather than the display facade. This arrangement was typical of palaces from this era, which oriented their grand facades outward while keeping practical entrances more discreet.
