Schwarzenberg, Mountain summit in Salzkammergut, Austria

Schwarzenberg is a mountain summit located between Ebenau and Elsbethen in the Salzburg region. The peak stands at approximately 1,334 meters and offers multiple hiking routes that wind through forests and open alpine meadows.

The Schwarzenberg lies in the Osterhorn group, and its 1,334 m summit sits exactly on the boundary between Ebenau and Elsbethen, making it the highest point of both municipalities. The mountain is shared by Elsbethen, a southern suburb of Salzburg, Ebenau and Puch bei Hallein. Its slopes above the Wiestal reservoir belong to the historic salt-mining landscape around Hallein and the Dürrnberg.

The name Salzkammergut-Berge is misleading here: the mountain lies in the Osterhorn group close to Salzburg and Hallein, oriented not toward Bad Ischl or Hallstatt but toward the former salt deposits of the Dürrnberg, held by the Prince-Archbishops of Salzburg. The summit marks the highest point of both Ebenau and Elsbethen.
