Schloss Grades, Medieval château in Metnitz, Austria.

Schloss Grades stands on a steep rocky hill above Metnitzbach, featuring a three-winged structure surrounding an irregular courtyard with Gothic portals and windows.

The castle, first documented in 1285, served as an administrative center for the Bishopric of Gurk and controlled their holdings in the Metnitztal region.

The name Grades originates from the Slavic word 'Grad', meaning castle, reflecting the early Slavic settlements in this Austrian region.

Since 2015, Monument Conservation GmbH manages the castle, which underwent extensive restoration work in collaboration with the Federal Monuments Office.

The northeastern section contains a double chapel from the 12th century, decorated with intricate stucco work created between 1720 and 1725.
