Schloss Greillenstein is a four-winged Renaissance château around a square courtyard, with two main storeys and a tall south gate tower. A bridge with Baroque stone figures crosses the moat, and the courtyard holds Baroque vases designed by Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach. An English landscape garden lies in front.

The castle began in the medieval period and was later transformed in the Renaissance style, shaping its appearance today. It gained protected monument status because of its architectural importance and the way it has been carefully maintained.

The rooms hold furniture, paintings, and decorative objects that reflect how Austrian nobility lived across different periods. Walking through them, you get a sense of their daily life and the choices they made.

The castle is open from April through October with guided tours available, and hours are extended during July and August. It helps to check tour times in advance to plan your visit and ensure smooth access.

In 1634 Emperor Ferdinand II granted Greillenstein high jurisdiction, and the castle still holds the former Landgericht with a notable collection of medieval court files. The Great Library has a coffered ceiling of a kind now found otherwise only at Laxenburg, while the Small Library's 16th-century fittings survive complete.
