The church rises on a hill with a 48-meter openwork sandstone tower, containing original 14th-century stained glass windows and architectural sculptures.
The construction of Maria Straßengel commenced in 1346 and concluded in 1355, built by the same stonemasons who created St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna.
The interior features ornate column capitals, keystones, and stained glass windows depicting saints and the Passion of Christ in medieval artistic style.
Visitors can observe the natural root cross, the Madonna statue, colorful medieval stained glass, and experience the highest smokehouse in the Styrian region.
A naturally formed root cross from a fir tree displays a lifelike image of Christ, recovered in 1976 after theft and now shown during church services.
