The Wien Elektrizitätswerke built the first power station between 1923 and 1926 to supply energy for the Vienna Electric City Railway operations.
The power station holds protected monument status due to its representation of early 20th-century industrial engineering in Lower Austria.
Gaming I generates 42 gigawatt-hours annually through two Francis turbines, while Gaming II adds 6 gigawatt-hours using pressure from a 2250-meter pipeline.
The facility operates using drinking water from the Second Vienna Mountain Spring Pipeline, connecting the water supply system with power generation.
