Wasserschloss Freiling

The northern section of Wasserschloss Freiling includes a tall tower, surrounded by gardens and remnants of water trenches within a vast landscape park.

First documented in 1170, the castle belonged to the Schifer family until 1669 when it was sold to Count Georg Ludwig Sinzendorf and later exchanged to Count Kauthen.

Major Josef Peller transformed the castle into a center for musical performances after acquiring the property in 1899, organizing numerous concerts for the local community.

The castle remains in private ownership under Andreas Pichler, with only the courtyard of the economic tract accessible to visitors and partially used by the local fire department.

Francis of Lorraine, who later married Empress Maria Theresa, stayed at the castle for a brief period, though the exact year of his visit remains unknown.
