Moated castle Parz

Parz Castle is a moated fortification with stone walls rising above a water-filled moat, combining architectural styles from different periods. The building now houses an art gallery on the ground floor and a restaurant with international cuisine.

First mentioned in writing in 1220 under Wernhart dem Lehrbühler, it changed hands many times before Sigmund Ludwig von Pollheim took control in the 1500s. After this acquisition, major renovations and structural reinforcements were carried out.

The gallery here displays works by artists from around the world, making the location a meeting point for contemporary art. Visitors can observe how this historic space now serves as a venue for new creative expression.

The castle is located in Grieskirchen and is visible from outside, with water surrounding the walls as a distinctive feature. Keep in mind that parts of the building function as an art gallery and restaurant, so hours of operation may vary.

From the 1960s through the 1990s, the castle served as an important art hub under painter Hans Hoffmann-Ybbs, setting the foundation for its transformation into a modern art venue. This artistic chapter left a lasting mark on the location and shaped its current role as a gallery.
