Moated castle Parz, Medieval castle in Grieskirchen, Austria
The moated castle stands with stone walls rising above a water-filled moat, featuring architectural elements from its 1800s reconstruction period.
First documented in 1220 under Wernhart dem Lehrbühler, the castle changed ownership multiple times before Sigmund Ludwig von Pollheim acquired it in 1514.
The castle houses Galerie Schloss Parz on its first floor, exhibiting works from international artists including Franz Josef Altenburg and Christian Ludwig Attersee.
The castle, located at Parz 1 in Grieskirchen, contains a restaurant called Castelvecchio and operates as a contemporary art gallery under Georg Spiegelfeld-Schneeburg.
Between 1963 and 1998, the castle functioned as an artist center led by painter Hans Hoffmann-Ybbs, establishing its connection to the arts.
