Schloss Rosenegg, Steyr, Protected castle in Garsten, Austria

Schloss Rosenegg in Garsten is a two-story castle featuring round towers positioned on its rear side to provide stability against landslides in the valley below. The structure displays the classic architecture of an Austrian manor house with solid construction and thoughtful design.

The site originated as a farmstead called Baumannsgütl, first mentioned in 1383, but acquired its present form when Andreas von der Pruckhen built the castle between 1572 and 1576. After 1683, Abbot Anselm Angerer undertook extensive renovations that fundamentally transformed the building's appearance.

The castle is maintained by the von Ronay family, who regularly organize musical performances for young artists in its historic rooms. These concerts give music a special setting where it resonates through centuries-old spaces.

The castle is located at Roseneggstrasse 8 in Garsten and is easily accessible by public transportation. Visitors can view the exterior architecture and explore the grounds freely.

Inside the building stands an unusually large chapel that was installed during the renovations under Abbot Anselm Angerer. This chapel occupies considerable space within the structure, which was uncommon for private castles of that era.
