Wallfahrtskapelle Maria Elend, Mountain chapel in Lend, Austria
The Wallfahrtskapelle Maria Elend is a small church building located in the mountains near Lend at approximately 1125 meters elevation. The chapel accommodates about 20 people and houses a stone statue of Mary dating from 1768.
The chapel was founded in the 16th century after Ursula Penninger found her missing daughter alive following her disappearance. This event led to the construction of the sanctuary as a sign of gratitude and divine grace.
The chapel is deeply connected to the veneration of Mary, as its name refers to her sorrows and suffering. Visitors gather here to pray and experience this spiritual place, particularly on days dedicated to this religious observance.
Access to the chapel is through a small walking path from the Embach main road. The site is open during the day for visitors seeking a quiet place for prayer and contemplation in the mountains.
Near the chapel is a spring called Augenbründl whose water has been collected by visitors since the 18th century. This water is used in local tradition to treat various eye complaints.
