Schloss Grubhof, Protected castle in Sankt Martin bei Lofer, Austria.
The medieval structure features a prominent tower, symmetrical wings, and a façade reminiscent of late 19th-century villa architecture.
Originally mentioned around 1300 as an episcopal fief, the castle underwent major renovations between 1783 and 1785 under Baron Georg Franz Anton von Motzl.
The castle reflects the architectural evolution from medieval stronghold to residential mansion, incorporating design elements from different periods of Austrian history.
The castle now functions as a hotel complex with 32 holiday apartments, an indoor swimming pool, and a restaurant serving regional cuisine.
In 1892, industrialist Herrmann Schmidtmann commissioned architects Josef Wessicken and Jakob Ceconi to transform the medieval core into its current grand form.
