Schloss Prankh, Renaissance castle in Sankt Marein-Feistritz, Austria.
Schloss Prankh is a Renaissance castle in Sankt Marein-Feistritz formed by combining two medieval structures into one cohesive building. The surrounding grounds still show traces of former water defenses that once protected the property during earlier times.
The castle was first built in the 11th century as a defensive tower by the Traisen-Feistritz noble family and appears in written records from 1135. Over time it was transformed into a Renaissance-style residence and remained a seat of regional noble power.
The castle was home to the Pranckh noble family for centuries and served as their regional power base and administrative heart. Today, visitors can see from the outside how the architecture reflects this period of authority and governance.
The property is accessible by car and parking is available near the entrance area. Only the exterior of the structure can be viewed, as the interior remains closed to visitors.
During the Turkish raids of 1480, the castle was never attacked because its strong fortifications discouraged invaders from attempting an assault. These well-designed defensive measures proved their effectiveness without a single battle.
