Grünbergseilbahn, Aerial lift in Gmunden, Austria.
The Grünbergseilbahn is an aerial cable car system in Gmunden that carries passengers from the valley to a mountain summit. The system covers a distance of about 2000 meters and climbs roughly 570 meters in elevation to connect the town with trails and recreation areas above.
The first cable car was built in 1957 and served as a key transport link for decades. It was taken out of service in 2013 and replaced by a modern system that began operating in 2014.
The base station serves as a natural gathering spot where locals and visitors meet before heading up the mountain together. The cable car links the town with hiking trails and outdoor activities that unfold higher up.
The journey takes less than 4 minutes and the system can transport up to 700 people per hour. Both the base and summit stations have good facilities that make boarding and departing straightforward.
The facility includes a special conveyor system with a moving carpet that provides additional transport options within the mountain area. This extra system complements the main cable car and makes exploring the higher terrain more flexible.
