Burg Scharfeneck, Medieval fortress ruins in Mannersdorf am Leithagebirge, Austria.
The castle remains stand at 347 meters elevation on Schlossberg hill, featuring thick walls reaching 4.5 meters and a rectangular layout with corner roundels.
Built in the 11th century, the castle belonged to Hungarian nobles until 1490, when it passed to Habsburg control under Maximilian I's expansion.
The fortress represents the architectural transition of medieval defenses, incorporating design elements from French and English castles during its reconstruction period.
The ruins maintain visible sections of Gothic door frames, window openings, and a round archway leading from the outer courtyard into the interior.
A lightning strike in 1555 destroyed the central 24-meter tower, which contained an 80-meter deep cistern carved directly into the underlying rock.
