Dominikanerkirche Krems

Dominikanerkirche Krems is a former monastery with Gothic elements and Baroque ceiling paintings that now functions as a museum. The rooms are filled with religious artworks and feature multiple exhibition spaces for visitors to explore.

The monastery was established in the 14th century and flourished as a religious center. After Emperor Joseph II dissolved it in 1784, the building served many purposes, from factory to theater, before becoming a museum.

The location sits in the center of Krems and is accessed through a medieval monastery gate that marks the entrance. The exhibition spaces spread across multiple levels, so plan to spend some time exploring.

A historic wine cellar is accessible in the basement area, showing how wine was stored long ago. The collection includes the Kremser Pfennig, one of the oldest surviving Austrian coins.
