Rudolfshöhe, Mountain summit in Wienerwald, Austria
Rudolfshöhe is a mountain summit in the Wienerwald that rises about 475 meters above sea level and offers views across the western parts of the forest region. A wooden observation platform crowns the peak, from which visitors can see other mountains in the area on clear days.
The first observation tower was built in 1861 and attracted visitors from Vienna, but fell into disrepair in the early 1900s. The wooden structure that stands today was erected later to restore the site's purpose as a viewpoint.
The mountain bears the name of Crown Prince Rudolf, who favored this location near Vienna for hunting expeditions. The name reflects the historical ties between the Wienerwald and the Viennese court.
The summit can be reached via a hiking trail of about 7 kilometers that begins at the Hütteldorf subway station. The path is easiest to walk during warmer months and includes shaded sections through the forest.
On clear days, the wooden platform offers views of the distant Ötscher and Schneeberg mountains, which stand apart from the Wienerwald landscape. This distant view becomes possible because of the summit's elevation and open position in the terrain.
