Schloss Puchenau, Historical castle in Puchenau, Austria.
Schloss Puchenau is a castle in the Austrian municipality of Puchenau featuring a three-story courtyard structure with a grand entrance gate. The buildings form an incomplete rectangular layout complemented by additional service structures on the grounds.
Count Ernst Christoph Schallenberg built the castle in 1674 as an administrative center for his Upper Austrian estates. The structure was designed for governance and management purposes rather than defense.
The castle serves as the municipal marriage hall for Puchenau, hosting weddings and cultural events for the local community. Residents and visitors use the space regularly for celebrations and gatherings throughout the year.
The castle is located at Karl-Leitl-Strasse 1 and underwent extensive renovation that was completed in 2009. Today it contains residential apartments and office spaces for various businesses on the property.
From 1713 onward, the Khueffstein family ran a water ferry service departing from the castle grounds that connected to the city of Linz. This crossing was an important transport link between the two communities for travelers.
