Schloss Sachsengang, Medieval castle in Groß-Enzersdorf, Austria.
Schloss Sachsengang is a castle in Groß-Enzersdorf with an outer fortification and a main building surrounded by a moat, around which several structures are arranged in a courtyard. The main building has an oval shape and contains a four-story tower with medieval foundations at its core.
The building was originally owned by the Diocese of Freising and later served as a hunting lodge for the Habsburg family. The current oval-shaped structure dates from the 17th century and was completed over several decades.
The castle displays ornate details from multiple periods, including cross-vaulted ceilings and decorative stucco work that tell the story of its long use as a residence. These embellishments still shape the appearance of the interior rooms today and reflect the wealth connected to the building.
The castle is easily accessible with parking available directly at the entrance on Am Hof 1. Visitors should be prepared for multiple levels and stairs inside, as the structure spans several stories.
The castle preserves a medieval core from earlier times that was incorporated into the new structure built in the 17th century, blending two different periods together. This fusion is still visible in the floor plan and construction of the tower.
