Schloss Sauerbrunn, Historic castle in Pöls-Oberkurzheim, Austria
The castle stands on a hillside at 750 meters elevation, featuring a quadrangular structure with arcaded courtyards and a fortress-like tower at its southern corner.
Franz von Teuffenbach constructed Schloss Sauerbrunn between 1547 and 1552, establishing it as a hospital and poorhouse foundation that continues to operate today.
The castle displays architectural elements from the 16th century, including wooden coffered ceilings and the coat of arms of the Teuffenbach family above the entrance portal.
The castle complex includes twelve mineral springs, which have been used since 1578 for the production and distribution of medicinal water known as Thalheimer Sauerbrunn.
In 2008, the castle was acquired by Dietrich Mateschitz's company, which initiated the construction of a brewery near the historical structure in 2017.
