Schloss Seebarn

Schloss Seebarn is a castle in Grafenwörth comprising a tall rectangular medieval defense tower and a single-story residential building positioned on the Wagram hillside. The architectural design demonstrates the blend of fortified protection with living comfort typical of noble estates in this region.

The castle was founded in 1309 and changed hands several times, including ownership by the Schenken von Seebarn family and the Counts of Verdenberg. After severe wartime destruction in 1945, it was rebuilt while preserving its Renaissance characteristics from the 16th century.

The castle blends medieval defensive features with Renaissance residential elements, reflecting how Lower Austrian noble estates evolved over time. This mixture shows how the needs of fortress building gradually shifted toward comfortable living spaces.

The castle is located at Schlossgasse 134 in Seebarn am Wagram and remains private property. Visits require advance permission from the owners.

The castle suffered severe damage in 1945 and required extensive restoration work afterward. The reconstruction was carried out with great care to maintain its Renaissance appearance.
