Pfarrkirche Großharras

Pfarrkirche Großharras is a church building combining a Gothic choir, a baroque nave topped by a high gabled roof, and a northern tower from the 14th century. These different sections show how the structure was expanded and modified across several centuries.

The church was founded around 1207 and came under the control of the Order of Malta in 1255. In 1766, the nave received baroque modifications that shaped its present-day appearance.

The church displays artistic elements from different periods that visitors can see in the sanctuary. The high altar with its carved figures and the twelve-sided baptismal font tell the story of how tastes and skills changed over the centuries.

The church is located in Großharras and carries the character of a building that speaks to different historical periods. Visitors should allow time to explore and notice the various architectural layers and interior details at a comfortable pace.

The organ inside dates to 1733 and rests within a marble case crafted with great care. Later, Josef Silberbauer added extensions to it, showing how musical instruments were valued and improved across generations.
