The castle features four wings surrounding a central courtyard, with wide defensive moats and fortified walls enclosing the entire structure.
First documented in 1265 as a fortress, the castle changed ownership multiple times until 1622 when the Hoyos family acquired it for 259 years.
The stone bridge leading to the eastern entrance displays chronograms with dates from 1680 and 1795, representing different construction periods.
The castle grounds include extensive park areas and remain under private ownership, with recent renovations undertaken by the Wenckheim family.
During conflicts in 1663 and 1683, the fortress served as a shelter for local inhabitants, protecting them behind its defensive walls.
