Schloss Hornegg, Medieval castle in Preding, Austria.
Schloss Hornegg is a medieval castle in Preding with a four-wing structure surrounding a central courtyard. The complex features arcaded galleries in the courtyard and an octagonal tower topped with a dome and lantern.
The castle was first documented in 1230 when the Hornegger family established their residence there. After changing ownership, the Saurau family took control from 1373 and held it for over two centuries.
The castle was home to Dr. Carl Schönfeldt, who used the name Rudolf Hornegg and became a recognized speaker for the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation. His connection to the place links it to regional cultural history.
The estate includes fish ponds on its grounds that play an important role in maintaining and financially supporting the property. These ponds are visible from the main buildings and shape the overall character of the complex.
The castle suffered substantial damage from French military forces in 1809 and required major renovations afterward. These repairs significantly altered its appearance and layered newer elements over the original medieval structure.
