Pfarrkirche Echsenbach

Pfarrkirche Echsenbach is a stone church sitting on a hilltop in the northern part of the village with a Romanesque nave and round windows. The building stands within a cemetery and features a Gothic sanctuary inside.

The building was first documented in 1250 as a branch church but gained its independence in 1296. A major reconstruction took place in 1427.

The interior displays Gothic ornamental details and ironwork that speak to the region's craftsmanship traditions. These elements reflect the faith and practices of people who worshipped here over many centuries.

The church sits on a hilltop and is easily reached from the cemetery with clear paths leading to the entrance. Visitors should note that services take place on Sundays and the interior is best viewed during daylight hours.

The modern altar was crafted from local Waldviertel granite, making it an example of regional materials used in the worship space. Wooden sculptures including a crucifix from the 1970s blend traditional craftsmanship with more recent history.
