Flughalle im Rinnsaal, Höchst

The Flughalle im Rinnsaal is a heritage-protected hangar in Höchst featuring an arched roof built from wooden framework trusses. The structure spans roughly 30 meters wide and 7 meters high, and now serves as a cattle barn and storage facility.

The hangar was built between 1941 and 1942 by the National Socialist Flying Corps to support glider operations during World War II in Vorarlberg. Since 1973, it has served as a cattle barn and storage building, giving it new purpose after the war.

The hangar served as a training ground where glider pilots earned their certifications and developed their flying skills. It remains a symbol of the local aviation heritage that shaped the region's relationship with flight.

The building sits roughly 2 kilometers northwest of Höchst's center and is visible from the outside. The surrounding area is rural, so it's best to plan a visit with local guidance or information beforehand.

On June 9, 1944, a four-engine B-24 bomber of the United States Army Air Forces made an emergency landing here after taking anti-aircraft fire. This episode reveals how the site remained caught up in wartime events even in the war's final years.
