Annunziatakloster Am Stein, Maria-Anzbach

The Annunziatakloster Am Stein is a neo-gothic monastery in Maria-Anzbach set among fields and gardens. Today it operates as a biodynamic farm that grows food and sells products directly to visitors.

The monastery was founded in 1899 by the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of Mary and served as a training place for young women from different countries. During World War II, it was converted into a military hospital to care for wounded soldiers.

The monastery is viewed by the local community as a place where traditional agricultural knowledge and crafts remain part of daily life. Visitors can observe how the residents blend spiritual practice with practical work on the land, maintaining habits that connect them to the rhythm of the seasons.

Visit during the farm shop hours when you can purchase products and explore the grounds. The terrain is relatively flat and easy to walk, so wear comfortable shoes as you move between the gardens and buildings.

In 1958, workers digging on the grounds found a jar containing silver coins from the 14th and 15th centuries. This discovery suggests the location had been important long before the monastery was built.
