Steppentierpark Pamhagen is a zoo with different enclosures where you can see regional animal species. The facility shows animals that naturally occur in the Seewinkel area.
Steppentierpark Pamhagen was founded in 1975 in Pamhagen in Burgenland. It occupies 13 hectares and keeps around 50 animal species, some of them free-roaming. The collection concentrates on animals of the Pannonian Plain steppe landscape, including Mangalica pigs, Baroque donkeys, Hungarian steppe cattle and water buffalo.
The park keeps breeds tied to the Pannonian Plain, among them curly-haired Mangalica pigs, Baroque donkeys, Hungarian steppe cattle and water buffalo, alongside lynx, wolves and golden jackals. Some of the roughly 50 species roam freely across the 13 hectares, so visitors meet animals of the steppe landscape rather than in cages alone.
The park has paths that make it easy to see the different enclosures. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes since viewing the animals involves quite a bit of walking.
The park focuses especially on animals that are native to the steppes and open landscapes of the region. This specialized focus sets it apart from larger zoos that show broad variety.
