Nike von Linz

Nike von Linz is an aluminum sculpture at the University of Arts in Linz, made from two mirrored plates shaped as a winged figure. The structure is supported by a steel framework and features integrated neon lights that illuminate it at night.

The work was created in 1977 as part of the Forum Metall project and was originally placed in Linz. It was later moved to Frankfurt, where it remains today.

The sculpture bridges ancient artistic traditions with contemporary design, showing how classical themes remain relevant in today's art practice. It demonstrates how artists can reinterpret old ideas through modern industrial materials and techniques.

The work is visible from outside and can be viewed around the clock, with the neon lighting making it particularly striking at night. The best viewing angle is from the art university campus area.

Industrial manufacturing techniques were used in its creation, with photographic images etched directly onto metal plates. This approach was uncommon for artworks and shows the link between industry and artistic production.
