Goiginger-Kaserne, Military barracks in Bleiburg, Austria.
Goiginger-Kaserne is a military facility located at Loibacher Straße 13 featuring several cross-shaped buildings in the Völkermarkt district of Carinthia. The complex was completed in 1988 and serves administrative and training functions.
The site began in 1957 as Feldhüttenlager Bleiburg following a local council request to establish a military presence in the region. It was renamed to honor Field Marshal Lieutenant Ludwig Goiginger, an Austrian military officer from the 1800s.
Artworks by Kiki Kogelnik and Reimo Wukounig are displayed throughout the site as part of a federal program to integrate art into public buildings. These pieces show how creativity finds a place even in military settings.
The barracks hosts the training company of Battalion 7 and provides important military infrastructure for the southern region. Access to the site is restricted due to its active military use.
The facility bears the name of Ludwig Goiginger, born in Verona in 1863, who was decorated with the Knight's Cross of the Military Order of Maria Theresa. This honors how Austria remembers significant military figures through local landmarks.
