Roman theater Bregenz, Roman theater in Thalbach, Bregenz, Austria
Located at 408 meters above sea level, the Roman theater extends over 50 meters in diameter with stone foundations and wooden seating arrangements.
Archaeological excavations in 2013 and 2019 revealed substantial stone walls at the base of the Upper Town, confirming the presence of a Roman theater.
The theater accommodated over 2000 spectators, featuring semicircular rising tiers and two entrance passages called vomitoria for different social classes.
The foundations utilized stones from a local stream known as Bachbölla in Vorarlberg dialect, while the remaining structure incorporated wooden elements.
The theater capacity exceeded the entire population of Roman Brigantium, indicating its function as a regional entertainment center beyond the city limits.
