Rhine bridge Hard–Fußach, Road bridge in Hard and Fußach, Austria.
The Rhine bridge Hard-Fußach is a modern road structure spanning approximately 256 meters across the Alpine Rhine to connect the municipalities of Hard and Fußach. It accommodates two traffic lanes for cars and separate pathways for buses, pedestrians, and cyclists, each with distinct widths for different users.
The original bridge was built in the 1970s but required replacement to meet modern flood protection standards set by international regulations. Construction of the new structure began in June 2020, with work scheduled primarily during winter months.
The bridge makes space underneath its structure on the Hard side for the Rheinbähnle museum railway, honoring the region's local transport heritage.
Walking or cycling across the bridge allows you to use the dedicated paths designed for these modes of travel. Keep in mind that winter months may involve ongoing maintenance work, so checking conditions beforehand is wise.
Three piers of the structure are positioned directly in the river foreshore and must withstand the specific conditions of the Rhine floodplain. This placement allows for continuous monitoring of water dynamics and structural stability throughout the year.
