Brauerei Zipf, Aktiengesellschaft vorm. Wm. Schaup, Austrian brewery
Brauerei Zipf is a brewery located in Neukirchen an der Voeckla in Upper Austria. It operates underground storage cellars and produces around eleven different beer varieties plus a hop-based non-alcoholic beverage using contemporary production methods.
The brewery began in 1842 as a small brewing operation attached to a pub under Friedrich Hofmann. In 1858, Vienna banker Franz Schaup purchased the financially troubled operation and expanded it with cellars and steam engines into a modern facility.
The brewery carries the name of the town where it has operated since its founding. Today it serves as a community gathering place, hosting music events and seasonal festivals that shape local social life.
Visitors can take tours lasting about an hour and a half that show how beer is made from raw ingredients through bottling. A tasting session follows the tour, and an on-site restaurant serves meals and beverages.
During World War II, the underground cellars were used by prisoners from a nearby concentration camp to manufacture rocket components. After the war, the first post-war beer was brewed in 1946 under new management, marking the facility's restart.
