Schloss Schwarzau, Protected castle in Schwarzau am Steinfeld, Austria.
The two-story central building features a prominent gable field and stands among extensive grounds in Lower Austria's Neunkirchen district.
Count Wilhelm von Wurmbrand-Stuppach initiated the castle's construction in 1567, with the current Baroque structure taking shape from 1697.
The castle chapel gained recognition as the wedding location of Archduke Karl of Austria and Princess Zita of Bourbon-Parma in 1911.
The former noble residence now operates as Justizanstalt Schwarzau following its sale to the Republic of Austria in 1951.
Soviet forces occupied the castle after World War II before its transformation into a women's correctional facility in December 1957.
