Johann Stöckl, a surgeon and physician practicing in the region, commissioned this burial vault before his death in February 1870. The construction of this private resting place reflected his personal wishes for a distinct memorial.
The vault displays an unusual column without a capital, pierced by an arrow, with the inscription 'Stökls Denkmahl 1870' on its base. This distinctive stone tells of personal beliefs and a desire for a lasting memorial.
The vault is accessible through hiking trails that connect various sites throughout the Reinsberg region and offer good navigation. Sturdy footwear is recommended when visiting, especially during damp weather conditions.
Stöckl deliberately chose not to be buried in the village cemetery and expressed his rejection of that option strongly. His desire for a separate resting place led to the creation of this distinctive private vault.
