Menin Gate, War memorial in Ypres, Belgium.
The Menin Gate Memorial features inscriptions of 54,896 Commonwealth soldiers who perished in the Ypres Salient during World War I without known graves.
Designed by architect Reginald Blomfield, the Portland limestone structure replaced an original narrow gateway and opened on July 24, 1927 as a tribute.
The Last Post ceremony occurs every evening at 8:00 PM, with buglers from the Last Post Association performing to honor fallen servicemen.
The memorial contains panels of names organized by regiment and rank, allowing visitors to locate specific soldiers through a systematic arrangement.
During the German occupation in World War II, the Last Post ceremony continued in exile at Brookwood Military Cemetery in Surrey, England.
