Vladslo German war cemetery

The Vladslo German War Cemetery contains the remains of 25,644 German soldiers, with headstones marking twenty soldiers each, listing their names, ranks, and death dates.

The cemetery, established during World War I with 3,233 initial burials, expanded in 1956 when remains from smaller surrounding cemeteries were transferred to this location.

Two stone statues called The Grieving Parents, created by German sculptor Käthe Kollwitz, stand near the grave of her son Peter who died in October 1914.

The German War Graves Commission maintains this cemetery, which received UNESCO World Heritage designation as part of the Western Front memorial sites in 2023.

Each memorial stone in the cemetery records information for twenty different soldiers, creating a distinctive pattern across the burial grounds.
